INTERLUDE IN LEWES HASTINGS - THE FOUR SEASONS It's winter in the seaside town of Hastings, a cosmopolitan town on the East Sussex coast, designated to become a University City. THE WEST PIER STORY - FOR CHILDREN It was cold night, the middle of winter. People hurried home from work, eager to be inside their warm comfortable houses. They didn't want to be outside in the street and get caught in the storm. THE END OF THE PIER It was New Year's Eve. He stood in front of the mirror by the hallstand and adjusted his bow tie for last time as his wife smoothed the silk faces of his evening dress suit. NOT QUITE SHANGRI-LA In the summer of 1938, a woman from the housing department visited our flat in Marine Terrace Mews to find out if we were suitable tenants for a council house in Whitehawk. PROFILE I am a 'Born and Bred' Shoreham Musselman and this is my 'Life Story.' BELIEVE AND ANYTHING'S POSSIBLE At 43 I felt gutted when my then Careers Officer told me that I was aiming my sights too high when I told her that I wanted to learn all about computers. STUDENTS As I wave goodbye to my final group of the season I feel vaguely sad. Being a Local Organiser of foreign students in this area brings, very much, its own rewards as well as its own heartaches. NARY A HAREBELL LEFT He was bored, very, very bored - for countless ages he had been here, there and everywhere creating trouble and chaos - mostly smaller things. MY MOST EXCITING YEAR My name is Kimberley Fletcher, I'm 11 years old and I live in Tilgate, Crawley. I want to tell you about the most exciting year I have had so far. BRIGHTON ROCKS - OR DOES IT? Back at the end of last September, on the day the Labour Party Conference opened in Brighton, it rained and rained and rained. WHY SEAFORD? From time to time one hears people being critical of this town, particularly with reference to its lack of facilities or attractions for visitors. BRIGHTON BREAZY PART THREE All the evening classes have started this week. The choice for adult education is spectacular. There's me starting my French conversation class, when I could be doing " life beyond liebfraumilch", "xmas cross stitch" or "palm reading made easy". The choice is amazing. One friend of mine was the only woman on a welding course and now she makes bizarre sculptures that she sells for fortunes. Whereas another mate "discovered her singing voice" just as her course promised and now we can't keep her quiet. BRIGHTON BREAZY PART TWO There must be ways we can brighten up Brighton. BRIGHTON BREAZY PART ONE In our household the end of the summer means we relax a little. Why? Because like many Brighton families this summer, we have opened our doors and let a few foreign students in to become a Host Family. Why? You may ask. For a bit of extra cash of course. Any one who tells you they do it for the cultural experience isn't telling the whole truth. And what an experience. UNDER THE PIER The West Pier, Brighton. Some people feel it should be demolished, others still find its crumbling structure as beautiful as ever. However, there is a hidden world under the pier which underwater photographer and diving engineer SEAN CLARK has uncovered. TO THE RESCUE I live in Lewes, East Sussex. It's just been hit by a major flood (the River Ouse, which runs right through the heart of the Town, burst its banks big time). A LIGHT HEARTED LOOK AT A DAY IN THE LIFE OF A WOMAN IN WHITEHAWK I wake as the dawn is breaking and prepare to rise, before realising the noise that woke me up was not the dawn chorus but the bouncers in their cars beeping each other and saying their farewells on their way home from work as they finish another evening of fraudulently earning more money to help their benefits go a little further. FAITHFUL UNTO DEATH November 5th - the really BIG day in our county town's calendar!
