DIARY OF A HOME EDUCATOR - Part Two' DIARY OF A HOME EDUCATOR - Part One I have been home educating for one year now and am thoroughly enjoying every minute of it. DO HIT AND RUN DRIVERS KNOW WHAT THEY LEAVE BEHIND? Most people say how terrible it is, yet another hit and run accident. The papers and radio mention injuries, only no one sees beyond that. THE SMALL WOODEN DOOR I had never noticed the small wooden door before, although I had been polishing the large piece of furniture for months. TESTOSTERONE TRAUMAS There was a nursery rhyme I learned as a child which told me that little boys are made of slugs and snails and puppy dogs' tails. As the parent of a teenage boy I disagree! Little boys are made of containable mischief and whimsy, hugs and cuddles. The great mystery is, what are bigger boys made of? BABY'S FIGHT FOR LIFE I had my fourth child at 28 weeks' gestation after what had been a normal pregnancy. DIARY OF A DESPONDENT MUM Went to work, acted as if nothing abnormal was going to happen in my life, arrived home approx. 1.20p.m., ironed my best dress, I wanted to look good for them. I phoned and I heard an excited voice at the other end, "We are on our way, see you there". THE FIRST DAY She woke up to the sound of the baby crying, she rubbed her eyes and tried to place where she was and who she was and then the strangled cries of the baby quickly brought her back to her senses. GRADUATION I looked into the distance from my seat at the back of Liverpool Cathedral, my 23-year-old daughter was about to receive her B.A degree from the Vice Chancellor of John Moore University (July 18, 2000). JACOB My wife and I were overjoyed to learn that we had a baby on the way. Our baby was due on March 14th 2000. 27 weeks into her pregnancy, the midwife told my wife - Victoria - that she should go to hospital immediately as her blood pressure was very high and she was showing a high percentage of protein in her urine. However we had no cause for alarm, after all, a month earlier we had been sent to the Royal Sussex County Hospital and Vic had been monitored overnight and then sent home. To be honest it had not been a easy pregnancy and Victoria had been sick throughout. MOTHERHOOD I remember the long weeks of waiting, the anticipation, the preparations and excitment. The thrill of the first movements inside me, until the day of the frantic rush to hospital when anxieties and fears took over with the first signs of pain. Then the pain took over - waves of relentless pain - the wonderful nurses - and more pain! Until that release with a much welcome cry, the first cry!
