THE PASSAGE WELCOME HOME "I am a controlled explosion," she told me. "If I were not controlled I might splatter all over you. I do anyway." WE SAID 'GOODBYE' AND I LEFT It was May 1953. I was 26 and had accompanied my husband on a business trip to Casablanca and while he was in his meeting I would spend the time exploring the city. NO MORE You looked across to me with those blue eyes, smiled faintly, and then closed those eyes forever. THE TAXI The aged car came up the road and stopped at the church, two men got out and went in to the church. Pregnancy Test She sat motionless on the side of the bath, holding the thin, clinical strip in her hand. The receipt and torn packet lying discarded on the bathroom floor, left there in the urgency to access the contents inside. This was it. CUT! I THINK I JUST CHANGED MY MIND I have a nervous disposition. Sometimes it is as though my nerves have a life of their own, and their life only coincides with the rest of me when it suits them. WHO'S THERE? One evening on the way home from the Docklands I came across a phone box. It was empty but the phone was ringing incessantly. A GIRL'S COMPASSION He came out of his friend's house in the Lanes of Brighton leaning heavily on his cane, as he turned the corner a group of young girls surrounded him, coming the other way. They were laughing and singing with joy because the local team had won their match, two-nil. THE OTHER WOMAN I'm sick. Not even three months separated, and I see him holding hands with another woman. Who is she? Panic sets in. I'm going to be ill. SINGLE BASKET What I hate most about being single again after 3 years is shopping.
